The relationship between laser cutting machine power and sheet thickness

  In recent years, with the rapid development of my country’s high-speed rail, nuclear power, shipbuilding, petrochemical, aerospace and other fields, the demand for laser cutting equipment and technology has also increased. The general trend is towards higher power, faster speed, larger format, thicker cutting, brighter and straighter cross-section.
  So from 6000W to 8000W, and then to the 10,000-watt laser cutting machine that once seemed out of reach, the power of the laser cutting machine step by step is beyond our imagination. In the past, the thickness of fiber laser cutting boards was limited to carbon steel 20mm and stainless steel 12mm, while a 10,000-watt laser cutting machine can cut aluminum alloy plates 40mm and stainless steel plates 50mm. When cutting 3~10mm thick stainless steel plates, the cutting speed of a 10kW laser cutting machine is more than twice that of 6000W. At the same time, in the application of carbon steel cutting, the 10,000-watt laser cutting machine can achieve fast and smooth cutting of 18-20 mm/sec, which is twice the ordinary standard cutting speed; it can also cut carbon steel within 12 mm with compressed air or nitrogen. The cutting efficiency is 6 to 7 times that of oxygen cutting carbon steel.
  According to statistics, in 8mm stainless steel, the speed of the 6kW laser cutting machine is nearly 400% higher than that of the 3kW laser cutting machine. In 20mm thick stainless steel, the speed of 12000W is 114% higher than that of 10000W.
  From the perspective of economic benefits, the price of a 10,000-watt laser cutting machine is less than 40% higher than that of a 6000W machine tool, but the output efficiency per unit time is more than twice that of a 6000W machine, saving manpower and space, and is favored by laser processing business owners.
  The working objects of laser cutting machine include stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, aluminum plate, silver, copper, titanium and other metal materials.
  For different metal materials, the cutting thickness of the laser cutting machine with different power has a great relationship with the cutting material. How thick can laser cutting machines of various powers cut?
  Generally speaking, the thickness limits of various materials cut by different laser cutting machines are as follows:
  (For reference only, the actual cutting capacity is also related to the quality of the cutting machine, cutting environment, auxiliary gas, cutting speed and other factors)

  1.500W fiber laser cutting machine Maximum cutting thickness of different materials: carbon steel maximum thickness 6mm, stainless steel maximum thickness 3 mm; aluminum plate maximum thickness 2mm copper plate maximum thickness 2mm
  The maximum cutting thickness of 2.1000W fiber laser cutting machine for different materials: the maximum thickness of carbon steel is 10mm, the maximum thickness of stainless steel is 5 mm; the maximum thickness of aluminum plate is 3 mm; the maximum thickness of copper plate is 3 mm;
  3. The maximum cutting thickness of the 2000W fiber laser cutting machine for different materials: the maximum thickness of carbon steel is 16mm, the maximum thickness of stainless steel is 8mm, the maximum thickness of aluminum plate is 5 mm; the maximum thickness of copper plate is 5 mm;
  The maximum thickness of cutting different materials with 4.3000W fiber laser cutting machine: the maximum thickness of carbon steel is 20mm, the maximum thickness of stainless steel is 10mm; the maximum thickness of aluminum plate is 8mm, the maximum thickness of copper plate is 8mm;
  The maximum cutting size of the 5.4500W laser for stainless steel is 20mm, but the quality of the cutting surface above 12mm is not guaranteed, and the cutting surface below 12mm must be bright. The 6000W cutting capacity will be better, but the price is also higher.
  In the actual application process, the cutting ability of the fiber laser cutting machine is also related to many factors such as the quality of the cutting machine, the type of laser, the cutting environment, and the cutting speed. The use of auxiliary gas can also improve the cutting ability to a certain extent, so there is no absolute standard to judge the cutting thickness. For example, the cutting of carbon steel mainly relies on oxygen combustion, and the cutting of stainless steel mainly relies on power. Generally, 1000w fiber laser cutting machine can cut carbon steel plate of about 10mm, while stainless steel plate is more difficult to cut. To increase the cutting thickness, it is necessary to sacrifice edge effect and speed.
